The main focus of this play is hitting the underneath receiver just as he crosses the middle of the field or a little beyond. If the defender on that side chases the Blue receiver, it could open the left side for some good old fashioned YAC (yards after catch). If Red is covered, there are outlets to Blue and Green. The routes shown are suggested, but in reality, these two will need to move to find the open area.
The comeback route can be hard to implement with younger ages and lesser skilled receivers, however, if you have 2 players with the skill set to make the throw and run the route properly, this route can be unstoppable. Here’s one play that utilizes the comeback route.
